The 192.168.2.1 is a default IP address used by many home network routers. The 192.168.2.1IP address is used by many Belkin, Edimax, Siemens and SMC router models and some models made by Edimax, Siemens and SMC.
This 192.168.2.1 IP default gateway is pre-set as the default IP address when you buy many of the above models. However, 192.168.2.1 is not the most common factory setting. The IP addresses 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.01 are by far the most common router default IP addresses.
Access Your Router Admin Page with 192.168.2.1.
Most users only come into contact with their router’s IP address setting when setting up the router at home for the first time, or if the Wifi internet connection is ‘down’ for some reason.
This is because the router default IP address is also used to access the router’s admin page or control panel. Once you have logged into your router control panel, you can change settings, such as wifi passwords, usernames and more.
How do I log in to my Router Admin Page Using 192.168.2.1?
If your router indeed uses 192.168.2.1 as its default IP address (this is by all means not always the case), then you can easily log into your router’s admin page/console from any laptop, mobile phone or home computer that has access to your local network.
Simply open an internet browser window from your device and enter: http://192.168.2.1 in the browser address bar and press ENTER.
Entering just 192.168.2.1 (followed by pressing ENTER) will also work, but any variant that uses WWW. or .COM must be avoided. Belkin users can also type http://router, followed by ENTER.
Once you have established a connection to the router, a router login page will load and you will be asked for an administrator username and password.
Often the default username/password will never have been changed from the original factory setting. So, if you don’t know the username or password try these combinations:
username: “admin” or blank
password: “admin”, “password” or blank
username: “admin” or blank
password: “admin”, “user” or blank
username: “admin”, “smc”, “smcadmin”, “cusadmin” or blank
password: “smcadmin”, “root”, “barricade”, “password”, “highspeed” or blank
username: “admin”, “root” or blank
password: “admin”, “password”, “1234”, “epicrouter”, “root”, “conexant” or blank
If those do not work, then a user may have changed the password and username. In that case, simply reset your router to its factory setting and try again. The factory default username and password will also be listed in your router manual or, occasionally, on the back of your router.
However, with literally hundreds of different router models, there is a chance that your router model might either be set to a different default IP address, or, is using a different username/password combination.

Troubleshooting – Logging in with 192.168.2.1.
If your browser gives you a “cannot reach this page”, or “the connection has timed out” message, then your router is either offline (disconnected from the network), has a technical problem, or is simply set up with a different default IP address than 192.168.2.1.
Try the following:
- If you are trying to connect to your router wirelessly, then switch to a Ethernet Cable connection and make sure the cable is firmly connected.
- Check that the router’s LED lights are lit. Compare these lights to your manufacturer’s manual to make sure that the router is connected properly.
- Make sure that your router is indeed using 192.168.2.1 as the default IP address, and is not configured to use another IP address.
- When entering 192.168.2.1 in your browser window, make sure that you did not mistaken enter the letter “L” instead of the number “1”. For example, 192.168.2.l will not work.
- When entering 192.168.2.1 in your browser window, make sure that have included all 3 Full Stops in the IP address. 192.168 21 or 192.168 2.1 is incorrect. 192.168.2.1 is correct.
- When entering 192.168.2.1 in your browser window, make sure that you have NOT included WWW or .com or .net in the IP address. Also, using the HTTPS secure protocol will not work.
- Try resetting your router connection:
1. Turn off your router and unplug its cable.
2. Turn off your computer.
3. Turn on your router and then your computer, and attempt to connect to the router.
4. Reconnect your router to your modem.
- If you are able to open the router login page, but your username and password does not work, then reset your router to its factory settings, and consult your router manual for the default username and password.
To avoid problems only 1 device can use the 192.168.2.1 IP address in a local network. Home systems with two or more routers running simultaneously, must be set up with different IP addresses.
Once you have logged in to your router control panel, you can change your router’s IP address to another IP address, as long as it is in the allowed range for private IP addresses.
